FASHION HAS NO GENDER
We've all been taught that men should wear suits and women should wear dresses. In the 20th century, it decided that gender should be more prominent in fashion for men and women to "dress to their parts."
Androgynous fashion is on the rise. There's no reason someone shouldn't wear a dress that they think is the most flattering on their body and personality. To assert dominance, toxic masculinity contributes to men's desire to dress like a man, with powerful suits and tight ties. A man is still a man even if he is wearing make-up, a skirt, or a crop top. His gender identity remains constant regardless of what he wears. A woman is still a woman if she doesn't wear make-up, has a short haircut, or wears suits. Her gender identity is unaffected by the clothes she wears.
Masculinity and femininity are behaviors and roles based on stereotypically gendered experiences, not genders. Why not push yourself out of your comfort zone and try something new and different? We should accept recent trends and push boundaries as a generation. Gender-neutral clothing is the way of the future in the fashion industry. It symbolizes equality that defies all stereotypes that confine people into boxes.
